Last night in Atlanta, Umeek was on site for the one amazing celebratory night with Nelly and Karrueche Tran . Be A Champion is an anti-bully Foundation that hosted a night of Celebration at Club opium which brought out Nelly and Karrueche which are big supporters of the movement. The night was filled with great spirits, laughter and music. WE were able to spot a few noticeable faces such as, Tiny of Xscape, Bow Wow, and Jermaine Depri. In an era where we witness numerous of stories of public brutality and murders; witnessing many like-minded celebs and Atlanta socialites party for a cause was a dope experience.

ABOUT BE A CHAMPION FOUNDATION

Married for 37 years and proud parents of three children, Robert and Pamela (Pam) Champion have endured the unimaginable. Their lives have been forever changed. On November 19th, 2011 their only son, Robert Darnell Champion, a music major and drum major in the Florida A & M University marching band better known as The MARCHING 100, was brutally and viciously beaten to death on a bus in Orlando, Florida.  Robert’s death was a direct result of corruption and negligence in the Florida A & M University marching band system.  It is because of the lack of accountability of the University and the killers of their son, Robert and Pam Champion founded Robert D. Champion Drum Major for Change Foundation, doing business as the Be A Champion Foundation to eradicate the senseless violence contaminating our educational institutions, ails our communities, fragment our families, and destroys the potential of innocence lives.  BE A CHAMPION Foundation is an accredited 501c3 non-profit organization with a God given mission and a clear direction to change mindsets and save lives.

In the words of the Robert and Pam Champion: “In a nation where we are inundated with violence in every facet of our lives, we chose to honor our son’s memory by providing proactive solutions to prevent violence, save lives and change mindset.  This can be done. We are not dealing with an incurable disease, we are dealing with a mindset, which can be changed.”

For the first time in its award show history, voting for the 49th NAACP Image Awards will be open to the public. Viewers will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite nominees in 36 different categories across film, television, and music.

While, this year, voters do not have to be members of the Association, the NAACP encourages those who participate in this year’s voting process to become members. “To become a member of the NAACP is to join a community of individuals from all facets of life who like you are committed to the elimination of discrimination of any type and making our nation a better place for all people,” said Johnson.

Hosted by Vanessa Bell Calloway, we were left with motivating words, “Stay ready, so you can be ready!” Kate Atwood, executive director of ChooseATL, introduced a new digital platform, THEA.
This was a nice event, and I look forward to attending more.
